This is a used Japanese bee hive set with a proven track record of attracting bees.
As you know, Japanese bees can sense and choose used hives, especially those with a history of nesting, by their scent, rather than new ones.
This hive naturally attracted bees two years ago and was used for nesting. It was later dismantled because the colony disappeared due to the queen's weakening.
To preserve the scent, the beeswax residue from the nest has been left on the hive (see images of the hive). It may look dirty, but please understand this is intentional.
The lid has been modified with a Triket net on the underside to prevent bees from attaching their nests, and ventilation holes have been added to the sides for heat dissipation from the top. (It is lined with mesh netting, so wax moths cannot enter.)
When using it as a waiting hive, we recommend covering the ventilation holes with tape or similar material to block out light.
Although the hive may appear somewhat dirty overall, Japanese bees actually prefer such hives.
Two years ago, the colony grew to nine swarms, which became physically demanding, so we have reduced the number of colonies. This hive is being sold as part of an inventory clearance.
● Usage
We recommend using this hive as a waiting hive due to its retained scent.
Simply place a bottom board and insert two 7mm boards between the bottom board and the hive.
You could also create boxes of the same size and use them for beekeeping.
